Lakewood Pet Watch

Lakewood Pet Watch is a neighborhood program designed to promote an animal-friendly community and pet responsibility. The program was started in the spring of 2006, and it continues to grow. The main goal of Pet Watch is to help reunite lost and found pets in Lakewood with their families. If someone finds a pet, they contact Pet Watch… if someone loses a pet, they contact Pet Watch… and hopefully a match will be made! The more people who know about Pet Watch, and the more people who participate, the more successful the program will be at reuniting lost pets with their families.

It’s also not uncommon that someone finds a dog in the neighborhood who has probably been abandoned, and nobody ever claims him/her. In these cases, Pet Watch will help circulate the information to help find foster homes, permanent homes, or other resources that will help keep the dog out of a city shelter. However, please note that Pet Watch does not serve as an adoption agency or rescue shelter, and does not take personal responsibility for such animals.

The territory that Lakewood Pet Watch covers is the neighborhood of Lakewood, as defined by the Lakewood Neighborhood Association. Of course, animals on the run do not recognize any boundaries, so communication is often shared with neighboring Pet Watch groups. Nearly all Pet Watch communication is done via email. “Pet Watch Alerts” are sent out when there is a new report about a lost or found pet, information to update, or other news that concerns the health or safety of pets in the neighborhood. Pet Watch news is also posted on the www.lakewood-now.net website.

To participate in PET WATCH:

  1. Sign up to receive Pet Watch Alerts – simply send an email to petwatch@lakewoodneighborhood.org requesting to be added to the mailing list. Please include your Lakewood address. (This is necessary because there is a limit as to how many emails can be sent out at once, so the Pet Watch email list is organized by address and Pet Watch alerts are sent out accordingly.)
  2. Be a responsible pet owner: have collars and ID tags on your pets at all times; consider microchipping as a back up; have your pets spayed/neutered, and keep them up to date on their vaccinations.
  3. Keep a recent photo of your pet on hand, so if your precious little one(s) ever goes missing you have a photo handy that you can email Pet Watch to help find your pet.
  4. Although there is no fee for participating in Pet Watch, Pet Watch encourages you to join the Lakewood Neighborhood Association if you are not already a member, as they support the Pet Watch program, and many other programs that better our community (for more info visit www.lakewoodneighborhood.org)

Thanks for your interest in and support of Lakewood Pet Watch.
